Is Meghan Markle sending King Charles III a subtle message amid the revelations coming out of Omid Scobie’s book, Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival? It’s quite possible given the royal family’s tradition of sending messages through their wardrobe. Kate Middleton is a master at this, and Meghan might be joining in on the subliminal messaging during a very tumultuous time at the palace.
On Monday, the Duchess of Sussex was spotted in Santa Barbara casually dressed in all-black — yoga pants, a long-sleeve top, and a green baseball cap. That’s a typical outfit for Meghan on her workout days, but it’s her accessories that are causing a stir. A close-up photo on the Daily Mail showed that she was wearing Princess Diana’s Cartier watch, something that is often seen on her wrist, and another stunning piece of jewelry that rarely makes an appearance.
Meghan had on a gorgeous Bentley & Skinner diamond tennis bracelet that was given to her by the then-Prince Charles ahead of her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018. The bracelet “features ninety-two round brilliant-cut diamonds” and is estimated to be worth over $6200, according to the Daily Mail. The last time fans saw Meghan wear this bracelet publicly was in May, so it’s not a piece of jewelry she takes out of her collection regularly.
Ahead of the publication of Scobie’s book, there was a notable softening of relations between Charles and the Sussexes. It was reported that his 75th birthday was marked by a pleasant phone call and a cute video from Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. The accidental revelation of the alleged “royal racists” — Charles and Kate Middleton, according to the Dutch edition of the book — ruffled quite a few feathers. However, Meghan’s symbolic gesture might be pointing to an end of the feud, at least with King Charles. The royal family will still have to grapple with the fallout of Scobie’s biography, but Harry and Meghan continue to indicate that they are ready for this rift to be over.
