Kate Middleton’s dazzling appearance at the men’s singles final at Wimbledon on Sunday, July 14 continued to prove that she’s always sending messages through her royal wardrobe. The Princess of Wales looked confident in her purple Safiyaa London Cecilia dress which many media outlets noted was a nod to the tennis tournament since it is one of the official colors of the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club.

However, there might be even deeper symbolism for Kate when it comes to her color decision, relating to her health battle. While royal fans know that Kate had abdominal surgery earlier this summer, the palace has decided to protect her medical privacy by not revealing the type of cancer. However, the color purple in cancer battles can often represent pancreatic, stomach, or esophageal cancer, according to the Fred Hutch Cancer Center in Washington. Could Kate be sending a message to other people battling similar cancers? It could be a small hint about the medical journey she’s faced over the last six months.

The confidence in her wardrobe also carried over to her body language, and it’s something that expert Darren Stanton has noticed. He told the Express in January that Kate’s public presence has “grown dramatically in recent years,” and that change was noticeable at Sunday’s event from everyone who watched her enter the stadium.

“She has an inner strength and is very motivated to do the best she can. This is shown through holding her head high, being active in conversations, and engaging in strong eye contact with people she’s never met before,” he added. “Kate didn’t have this confidence previously, and the confidence she has is quite subtle. It’s not too overwhelming and it’s clear her role comes naturally to her.”

Her presence at Wimbledon was received with a warm and celebratory celebration, and it was clear she was thrilled to be at one of her favorite events of the year. It’s unclear when we will see the Princess of Wales next, but everyone should keep an eye on her wardrobe because there may be more than one story she’s telling.
