Celebrities on the cover of Vogue are a very common occurrence these days, but there are reports that they are going after a famous face who rarely flashes their star status in fashion magazines. Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of American Vogue and the chief content officer of Condé Nast, is considered to be one of the most influential voices in fashion and she reportedly is courting a royal to be the next cover star.

Kate Middleton has been offered the Vogue cover of her choice, per the Daily Mail. She would have the option to “choose her own photographer, be in charge of fashion choices, and decide whether or not to grant an interview.” She would also have the power to decide if she wants her feature to be a part of British Vogue or the U.S. version. This wouldn’t be her first time appearing in the magazine, though. The Princess of Wales was the cover star for the June 2016 issue of British Vogue, celebrating 100 years of the magazine.

Wintour feels like now is the right time to feature her again because of her “global fashion icon” status. “Her brave battle against cancer while raising three young children in the public eye makes her a role model to millions. Her story would be an inspiration to so many women going through what she has gone through,” an insider shared.

Kate’s first cover was photographed by Josh Olins in Norfolk, England, near their country home, Anmer Hall. It showed off the casual side of the royal family member as she sported a more natural look. She wore a brown suede jacket with a crisp white shirt paired with an olive-green hat. (You can see the image here.) British Vogue‘s then-editor-in-chief Alexandra Shulman gushed about working with the princess to The Hollywood Reporter.

“For me personally it has been a wonderful experience to have had the opportunity to work with her on this, and I am immensely proud of what we have produced,” Shulman said in 2016. “This special issue of the magazine is very close to my heart as it had to reflect on 100 years of British Vogue, and so I am hugely grateful that we have been able to continue with our tradition of outstanding royal portraiture with these pictures.”

Vogue and British Vogue have featured Princess Anne and Princess Diana over the years, and Meghan Markle guest-edited an issue in 2019 while she was a working royal. So, having Kate make another appearance on the cover would be honoring the royal past. There’s no word if the Princess of Wales has accepted Wintour’s offer, but it would certainly be a buzz-worthy issue of the magazine.
